Earlier this week, WCREALTORS welcomed Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan, Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks and Round Rock ISD Executive Director of Communications and Community Relations Jenny LaCoste-Caputo to our Association to give a “City of Round Rock Update.” Below are ten things you might not know about Round Rock!

  • Round Rock has the lowest tax rate in the state compared to other cities its size (43 cents)
  • Transportation continues to be a huge focus for the city; several projects are in the works including I-35 updates & the 3406 bridge project. The City’s 2040 Transportation Plan is budgeted for $1.4 billion.
  • The City opened two new fire stations in 2017. One of the stations is in a remodeled house, which resulted in major taxpayer savings!
  • There continues to be a lot of economic development growth including The District (mixed-use), the Downtown Depot (condos) and the Kalahari Resort. The city is also looking for ways to increase daytime traffic to Downtown Round Rock.
  • Round Rock ISD has one of highest graduation rates in the state at 95% and 100% participation in either the SAT/ACT by eligible students.
  • Round Rock ISD’s current enrollment is 48,900 and is expected to grow at 600 students per year (that is equivalent to one elementary school). Over 90 languages are spoken within this student base!
  • There are many different programs offered in Round Rock ISD including High School Academies, Career Tech, and the International Baccalaureate program.
  • The Round Rock Police Department hosts over 550 community events per year and takes over 120,000 service calls per year!
  • The top issues affecting law enforcement are traffic, infrastructure & growth and mental health.
  • The Round Rock Police Department hosts a Citizen Police Academy, a 13-week (one hour a week) program that gives citizens a unique look into what it takes to be a police officer.

Round Rock continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in one of the fastest growing counties in both Texas and the United States and has received many accolades including the #3 best place in America to raise a family and the #5 safest city in the nation.
